—The exchange of criticism and respect is possible when two individuals are equals, can be open with each other, and are aware of their equal value.

For the influential Swedish feminist artist Anna Sjödahl (1934—2001), artistic activity, theoretical writing, political work, and the personal were all equally valid. Made in dialogue with the collection at Skövde Art Museum, the piece Anna AS2156 continues Karlsson Lundgren’s research on the possibilities of using biographical material as a tool for resistance. A small fragment of a vast estate donated by Sjödahl to the museum is meticulously documented—spread-by-spread—in a series of photographs. It is the first of seven personal work journals created by Sjödahl between 1976–77. With choreographed hand movements and minimalist masculine-coded aesthetics, the artist questions his position and subjectivity by censoring the journal—sometimes subtle, others less so—to illuminate the ‘private’ without revealing its content.
